The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel (Fanfic) - Chapter Eight
Chapter Eight - Doctor John Dee
Doctor John Dee struggled against the mass of coils wrapped around him.
Directly in front of him, with an amused cold smile, stood Perenelle Flamel.
“I can’t wait for Niccolo to arrive,” Dee muttered.
Perenelle silenced him with a hiss and a glare, boring into his eyes. “You will pay for what you’ve done.”
“And I’m sure you will as well,” whispered Dee. When Niccolo, Billy and the twins arrived, he’d unleash on them his little surprise. Dee smiled savagely.
“What are you so happy about?” Perenelle hissed.
“Oh, you will find out.”
Perenelle approached Dee. In the small alleyway, covered with moss and flies buzzing around, the floor perched and broken, lighted by one flickering street light, her expression looked almost alive.
Dee winced in pain when Perenelle stuck her nails into his shoulder and pressed hard. He knew she rarely left her victims alive, and he was beginning to wonder if she’d kill him before he executed his plan. “You wouldn’t kill me.” Dee regretted the words as soon as he said them.
“Oh, I wouldn’t... would I? Did anything stop you from killing my husband? Just like you, I don’t have second thoughts.”
Dee felt like a frustrated child when he grumbled “no.”
“That’s what I though.” Perenelle let go of his shoulder, and Dee realised only now, that it was throbbing with pain.
She turned around, away from the trapped magician, and stared blankly at the entrance to the dirty alleyway. He heard her breathe slowly, and watched her entire body shake to the cold. She tapped her fingers on her thigh patiently, bobbing her shoulders from time to time, probably to warm up.
“Ah! Niccolo!” Perenelle suddenly called, and Dee stared at the end of the alleyway, with a mischievous look. They fell for it, he thought. He expected much more than Machiavelli, even the slightest suspicion would have been enough.
But there was no one following him. Not Billy, nor the twins. Dee’s smile vanished, and as Machiavelli approached him, he saw the old man’s grin. He knew it was a trap. Oh well... he can still finish his business with his foe.
Dee looked right and left, up and down, almost desperately, and his heart sank when he heard Machiavelli laugh. “They aren’t coming.” Machiavelli was close enough to touch Dee. He looked at him blankly, and his nostrils flared.
Dee stared at the end of the alleyway, now was his chance. “Kill them!” he suddenly shrieked, in an inhuman voice, almost like a hawk. “Kill them all!”
Perenelle and Machiavelli turned around, to see six large, monstrous dogs, launching at them.
